A fragrance for work and university

Updated

An office or a lecture hall is the hardest place to wear a fragrance well: the room is closed, the air conditioning recirculates it, and the same people sit near you for hours. The right daytime scent is noticed when someone leans in, not from the door.

What makes a good daytime fragrance

Fresh openings of citrus, green and aromatic notes, over a clean base of musk and light woods. Heavy vanilla, amber and oud are beautiful in the evening and tiring in a closed room at nine in the morning.

Less is more

A daytime fragrance is about how little you need:

  • One or two sprays, on the chest or the inner arm, under the shirt.
  • Put it on at home, not at your desk.
  • Skip the neck and the collar in summer: sweat and heat make them project the most.

Four we suggest

Turathi Blue by Afnan: bergamot and mandarin over musk, bright and easy. Odyssey Mega by Armaf: ginger, citrus and mint over musk and vetiver. Hawas Black by Rasasi: bergamot, pineapple and grapefruit over cedar and moss. Calisto by Night de Paris: mango and citrus over dry woods. All four are daytime fragrances for spring and summer.

Common questions

How many sprays are right for work?

One or two. The room is closed and the same people are near you for hours, so a fragrance that suits the evening at four sprays is too much at your desk.

Can I wear a sweet winter fragrance to the office?

In winter, a single spray of a softer one can work. Save the richest vanilla and amber fragrances for the evening; in a closed room in the morning they tire the people around you.

What is the difference between a day and an evening fragrance?

Day fragrances lean on fresh, citrus and aromatic notes that stay close; evening fragrances lean on amber, vanilla, spice and woods that carry further and last longer.
